Top 10 Microscopis Image

A tiny speck of dust in reality might not be home to thousands of microscopic creatures living in a fully built city complete with a mayor, but when put under a microscope it can reveal some still fascinating details. Today we round up 10 of the best microscopic images ever captured.

No 10. Diatom rainbows

Captured through polarizing light filters, this image is courtesy of a retired British microscopist Michael Stringer and it grabbed the top position in 2008 Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition. The image shows sinewy filaments within squirming microscopic diatoms.

No 9. Muscoid fly

Remember this guy? Yeah, you guessed it; it is a common house fly, magnified 6.25 times. Captured by Chrales B. Krebs for 2005 Nikon Small World Photomicrography.

No 8. Arabidopsis thaliana (thale cress) anther

This image of a male sex organ of flowering plant comes in at number 8. Magnified 20 times, this image was captured by Estonian scientist Heiti Paves of the Tallin University of technology. This image has been chosen for its scientific and artistic qualities for a record 2000 entries.

No 7. Double transgenic mouse embryo

Magnified 17 times the original size, this image illustrates a late stage developing mouse embryo, specifically after 18.5 days. It was captured by Gloria Kwon. This image was a runner-up in 2007 Nikon Small World Photomicrography competition.

No 6. Human tongue taste bud

Showing one of the 10 thousand taste buds in the human tongue, this image was captured using Scanning Electron Microscope, also known as SEM by David Gregory & Debbie Marshall.

No 5. Beetle dancing on a pin

Ever wondered how many angels could dance on the head of a pin? Well, keep wondering because I don’t have the answer also, but what I do have to give you is, this beautiful image of a tiny leaf beetle dancing, not dancing really, but standing over the head of a pin. This image is a 40x magnification of the original thing, and everything including the beetle’s rainbow colors, is all natural.

No 4. Split hair

Coming right out of the Head & Shoulders commercial is this image of a split hair. This image by Liz Hirst, Welcome Images, should motivate you enough to regularly get your hair trimmed or to use a good conditioner to avoid this kind of ugly picture.

No 3. Red blood cells

This beautiful image of red blood cells which we humans carry in amounts of trillions, comes in at number 2. In women there are about 4 to 5 million RBCs per micro liter (cubic millimeter) of blood and about 5 to 6 million in men.

No 2. Influenza virus neuraminidase

This visually beautiful image shows crystals of influenza virus neuraminidase separated from terns and is a 14x magnification. This image by Julie Macklin and Dr. Graeme Lave was a runner-up in the 1987 Nikon Small World Photomicrography competition.

No 1. Individual Gold atoms

While not as visually appealing as other images in this list, this image symbolizes a special achievement. This image was produced by TEAM 0.5, world’s most powerful transmission electron microscope in 2008, though I am not aware of its current status. If someone from our readers want to enlighten us on this, then please do in the comments section. The image clearly distinguishes between the individual atoms which wasn’t previously possible. To give you an idea of how big an achievement this is, the distance between the individual atoms you can see is 2.3 angstroms and 1 angstrom is equal to 10^(-10) meters.

Pandangan Mengenai E-mail

Image via Wikipedia

Cara Membaca Surat Elektronik

Contoh: Yahoo!

7. Global :  e-mail dapat dikirim ke seluruh dunia.
8. Memungkinkan pengiriman pesan berformat multimedia :  e-mail yg dikirim dpt berupa teks, gambar, video, program, suara dll.
9. Memungkinkan memperoleh penghasilan dari sebuah email gratis : Sumber http://uanggratisdariemail.blogspot.com

KELEMAHAN PEMAKAIAN E-MAIL :

Malaria: a major global killer

Mosquito
Anopheles mosquitoes spread malaria
Malaria - the disease that singer Cheryl Cole has been admitted to hospital with - kills more than a million people a year and is second only to tuberculosis in its impact on world health.
The parasitic disease is present in 90 countries and infects one in 10 of the world's population - mainly people living in Africa, India, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Colombia and the Solomon Islands. There are four main types of malaria, all spread via mosquitoes.
Ninety per cent of all malaria cases are in sub-Saharan Africa where it is the main cause of death and a major threat to child health. Worldwide, a child dies of malaria every 30 seconds. Pregnant women are also particularly vulnerable to the disease, which is curable if diagnosed early.
The economic impact of the disease is immense, causing many lost days of work and loss of tourism and investment.
Around 2,000 people a year in the UK get infected with malaria when abroad.
But it is preventable and curable.

What are the symptoms?
Most people survive a bout of malaria after a 10-20 day illness, but it is important to spot the symptoms early. The first symptoms include a headache, aching muscles and weakness or a lack of energy. This means it can be confused for other conditions like exhaustion or flu.
The classic sign of the infection is a high fever, followed a few hours later by chills. Two to four days later, this cycle is repeated.
Symptoms can appear any time from six days after being bitten by a mosquito carrying the malaria parasite. The time it takes symptoms to appear - the incubation period - can vary with the type of parasite that the mosquito was carrying.
The type of parasite will also determine whether the disease will be mild or severe.
Anyone can catch malaria and even the young and fit can die from a serious infection.
The most serious forms of the disease can affect the kidneys and brain and can cause anaemia, coma and death.
Why has malaria increased?
After years spent bringing the disease under control, the number of people dying from malaria is now higher than it was 30 years ago and it has spread to new countries.
Although it is mainly a disease of tropical and sub-tropical countries, malaria has been identified in eastern European countries such as Russia and Turkey and recently a handful of cases were diagnosed in the US.
The increase in cases is due to a number of factors:
  • the disease is becoming resistant to traditional treatments. In some areas of Asia, none of the major drugs is effective in fighting malaria.
  • mosquitoes are developing resistance to the main insecticides which have been used to control the spread of the disease.
  • political and social upheaval has led to large numbers of people moving into new areas where disease is spread more easily.
  • changes to the environment, caused by road-building, mining and irrigation projects, have created a good breeding ground for malaria.
In many countries, budget restraints have led to malaria control programmes being cut back or abandoned.
How can malaria be contained?
A great deal has been spent on malaria research. The main thrust of study is towards developing a cheap vaccine.
None has yet been developed which is approved for general use.

When I mentioned the Solomon Islands, it was a Eureka moment. As someone who had spent a number of years in Africa, she spotted the malarial signs
Katie Fraser BBC News Anti-malarial pills didn't stop me getting the disease
The spread of the disease can be reduced by cutting down the mosquito population, for example by filling ditches where mosquitoes breed.
Early diagnosis can lead to successful treatment so education in spotting the symptoms of malaria is important. The spread of the disease can also be tracked and preparations made.
Bednets coated in insecticide have also reduced the incidence of the disease by up to 35%, according to the World Health Organization.
